USB port for alternative power source and connectivity
Desktop digital tester that uses refractive index to quickly separate gemstones, diamonds, moissanites and other diamond simulants.
By measuring the quantity of light reflected through the stone, the Presidium Refractive Index Meter II (PRIM II) is able to separate diamonds, moissanites and other colored gemstones via the Refractive Index (R.I) of these polished gemstones.
Unlike a traditional refractometer that has a limited range of R.I measurements and thus cannot be easily used to measure R.I of certain gemstones, the PRIM II is able to measure a wider range of R.I value from 1.000 to ~3.000, therefore covering the commonly known gemstones in the market and can also measure RI of diamonds, moissanites and other diamond simulants such as high zircon, strontium titanite, etc.
In addition, a fast and clean test can be easily done with the PRIM II, without the inconvenience and messiness of R.I liquid used in the traditional refractometer.
The PRIM II also comes with a downloadable software that provides a database of more than 50 gemstones with their various properties and possible origins, and a program that enables the user to enter known properties of the gemstone such as color, S.G. value, hardness, etc to ascertain what possible gemstone it is from the database information.
HOW TO USE:
Power up the meter, either by inserting a 9-V alkaline battery or use of an AC power adapter via the USB connection port on the back-side of the meter. (battery does not need to be removed if using an ac adapter)
Clean and dry your gemstone before performing any test.
Turn "on" the Presidium Refractive Index Meter II (on/off button is on the front side of the meter) Display will show "1.000"
Open the top  cover located above the word "PRESIDIUM"
Remove Protective cover off the center test pad below LED Display Window
Remove Cylinder from the left side of the meter, (where the "LOCK" points toward)
Place a clean and polished gemstone, table side down, on the center test pad (do not use fingers, fingerprints will affect results), the table or facet placed on test pad must be at least 3mm diameter.
Cover the gemstone you placed on the test pad with the recessed side of the cylinder
The LED Display will show the Refractive Index (R.I.) of the gemstone
Using the PGCG Software
Scan the QR code on the paper insert and download the software (follow directions)
When you connect the USB INTERFACE (USB Cord), the program will show on your computer device a list of "possible stones" for the Refractive Index (R.I.) of your tested gemstone
Click  the online Icon/Button once you have placed your gemstone on the test-pad and covered it with the cylinder
A list of possible "gemstones" will display for the gemstone's R.I. value.
Select a gemstone displayed and you will be able to view a stored value of that stone's property, name, stone family, bi-refringence (optical property), hardness, R.I. and S.G. (Specific Gravity)
If you know the parameters such as color, hardness, and S.G. values; enter the known values to narrow down the possible identity of your gemstone
With the known parameters, you can search the parameters of color, hardness and S.G. values and the meter will narrow down possible gemstones.
NOTE: the tester has been calibrated during the manufacturing process and no further adjustment is required-refer to user handbook)
